Russia staged a children’s military parade in the Pacific port city of Vladivostok, announced Primorsky Krai Governor Oleg Kozhemyako on May 4.

Over 1,500 elementary school students dressed in military uniforms marched in formations symbolizing various branches of the armed forces.

Kozhemyako praised the participation of children whose fathers are currently fighting in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The event was held under the banner “Great-Grandchildren of Victory” and was attended by local officials, military personnel, and a delegation from North Korea.

“Today, children whose fathers are fighting on the front lines will march in the parade ranks,” Kozhemyako said at the event’s opening.

“We are rightfully proud of the courage and bravery of our fighters and know for certain that, just like in 1945, the enemy will be defeated and victory will be ours.”

Groups of first-grade students represented a wide range of military roles, including motor rifle troops, tank units, artillerymen, engineers, medics, paratroopers, and missile forces.

Symbolic representations included specialized branches such as nuclear, chemical, and biological defense, as well as anti-air and anti-missile units. The event was overseen by Russian military officials and veterans with active combat experience.

Kozhemyako emphasized that the young participants were meant to reflect the legacy of Soviet military triumph, particularly the victory in World War II.

The event also underscored Russia’s current international alignments, with a North Korean delegation in attendance and acknowledged in the governor’s address.

“Units of the Korean People’s Army took an active part in defeating Ukrainian militants on the Kursk land,” Kozhemyako said.

“They showed courage and bravery alongside their Russian brothers-in-arms. We will always be grateful to the Korean fighters who honorably fulfilled their military duty.”

Earlier, reports emerged that Russian authorities had begun involving preschool children in state-run propaganda activities in the temporarily occupied city of Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk region.

Young children attending local nurseries and kindergartens were recently presented with certificates for participating in drawing and poetry contests on military topics. The events were organized under the federal Russian program titled “Patriotic Education of Russian Citizens.”
