Russian Attack Destroys Ukrainian Red Cross Office in Donetsk Region
Russian forces attacked and destroyed the office of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society in Kurakhove, Donetsk region, the organization reported on October 23.
The organization's statement noted that the attack resulted in the destruction of technical and material assets. Staff and volunteers were not harmed.
"We categorically condemn the violation of international humanitarian law and the attacks on civilian objects and humanitarian organisations," the Red Cross stated.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has faced criticism during Russia's war in Ukraine for its perceived shortcomings in addressing the humanitarian crisis. Concerns have been raised about its neutrality, as ICRC has refused to expel the Russian Red Cross from its membership despite concerns about potential breaches of neutrality regulations revealed by an investigation conducted by several international media outlets.
