Russian Children’s Commissioner, Accused of War Crimes, Marries Sanctioned Russian Oligarch
Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia’s Commissioner for Children's Rights who has been accused by the International Criminal Court (ICC) of illegal deportation of Ukrainian children, has married Konstantin Malofeev, sanctioned Russian oligarch and the founder of the TV channel "Tsargrad.” This was reported by Russian media.
On March 17, 2023, the ICC issued arrest warrant for Lvova-Belova for illegal deportation and transfer of Ukrainian children from temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia. According to the Ukraine’s National Information Bureau (NIB), there are currently 23,711 children known to have been illegally deported to Russia.
Since 2014, Konstantin Malofeev has been under sanctions from the US and the European Union due to allegations of financing the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. Following the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Malofeev’s media outlets have become major distributors of Russian propaganda.
