Russian Documentary Exposes Its Own War Crimes Committed During Mariupol Siege, Video
Footage of Russian forces firing on a civilian car in Mariupol has emerged in the Russian documentary At the Edge of the Abyss, shedding light on a documented war crime committed during the 2022 siege of the city.
The first video shows Russian forces firing at a civilian vehicle, while civilians get out of it and shout “Don’t shoot, there are children here,” and the second one showcases Russian command giving orders to execute civilians and stop anyone from leaving the besieged city.
“This street is not allowed to cross for anyone, children, old people, I do not give a shit”, says the Russian commander.
“Vans with children, buses, I do not care….You need to stop the first vehicle in the column at any cost. Shoot the tires, if they drive further shoot them in the face.”
The four-part documentary chronicles the combat operations of the Somalia assault battalion in Mariupol, a unit known for its involvement in numerous war crimes since the onset of Russia’s invasion of east of Ukraine in 2014.
It focuses on their role in the so-called “liberation” of Mariupol in the spring of 2022.
The director describes his connection with the battalion, stating: “In the fall of 2014, during the battles for Donetsk airport, I met the guys from the Somalia battalion—completely reckless guys.”
Earlier, the International Criminal Court (ICC) by Global Rights Compliance alleged Russia of committing war crimes during the siege of Mariupol. Investigators from Global Rights Compliance alleged Russia deliberately used starvation tactics against Ukrainian civilians for 85 days, targeting essential supplies and infrastructure.
