Russian Drone Strikes Police Vehicle in Kupiansk, Ukraine, One Officer Killed
On August 31, in the city of Kupiansk, Kharkiv region, a Russian FPV drone attacked a police vehicle carrying three officers. All of the officers sustained shrapnel injuries and were hospitalized. One of them, Captain Oleksandr Popovych, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Captain Oleksandr Popovych, a senior inspector of the 2nd company, 1st battalion, Special Purpose Police Regiment of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kharkiv region, had nearly 20 years of service in law enforcement. During Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he actively participated in humanitarian missions in some of the most dangerous areas of the Kharkiv region.
The Kharkiv Police confirmed that the drone attack occurred around 7:30 PM. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the 44-year-old captain could not be saved. He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, and mother.
Additionally, on the night of September 1, Russian forces struck the village of Slatyne in the Kharkiv district, injuring six local residents.
