During the night of September 7–8, Russian attack drones crossed into Romanian airspace, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. The incursion occurred amid ongoing Russian drone strikes targeting southern Ukraine.

The Air Force of Ukraine reported the incident at 02:49, noting that a group of Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) entered Romania’s airspace. Ten minutes later, the military provided an update, tracking the movement of the Iranian-made Shahed drones:

- A drone was spotted in Odesa region, moving toward the village of Sadove.

- Another drone was seen flying over southern Odesa region, heading toward Vylkove and Kiliya.

- A drone entered Romanian airspace near Sabangia, a town located close to the Ukrainian border.

At 03:41, the military confirmed that the drone had exited Romanian territory and continued flying over the Black Sea, near the coast of Odesa region.

Meanwhile, local authorities in Romania’s Tulcea and Constanța counties, bordering Ukraine, warned residents about the potential danger of falling objects from Russian UAVs following attacks on Ukrainian territory near the border. The alerts were sent through the R0-Alert system, designed to notify the public of risks to airspace safety.

Romanian defense officials confirmed that, as of Sunday morning, no debris or unknown objects had been reported on Romanian soil.

At the same time, air defense forces were actively engaging Russian aerial threats over Ukraine. On the night of September 8, Ukrainian air defense systems shot down 15 out of 23 Shahed drones and one guided X-59 missile. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, two Shahed drones were lost from radar. Additionally, three X-59 missiles failed to hit their targets due to the active defense efforts of Ukrainian forces.

Russia launched four X-59 guided missiles from the Belgorod region and 23 Shahed drones from Kursk and Chauda. Ukrainian air defense systems were deployed across Odesa, Kharkiv, and Dnipro regions.

In a separate incident, Russian forces carried out an airstrike on the city of Sumy, resulting in the deaths of two civilians and injuries to four others, including two children. Local authorities reported damage to private homes and vehicles, with emergency services working to address the aftermath and provide medical assistance to the injured.
