A video circulating on social media appears to show the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Kursk region. The Ukrainian Parliament’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, confirmed the incident on February 23, citing a Ukrainian soldier’s Telegram account.

The footage allegedly shows soldiers from the 82nd Brigade being deliberately shot in the head by a Russian soldier.

Lubinets condemned the act, calling it “another proof of the inhuman cruelty of the Russian army” and a clear violation of the Geneva Convention and international humanitarian law.

He emphasized that the video depicts the intentional killing of defenseless prisoners of war. Lubinets also reported that he had contacted the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross regarding the incident.

In October 2024, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine reported that Russian forces executed 102 Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Earlier, a forensic examination confirmed that most of the remains transferred to Ukraine by Russia have been identified as Ukrainian POWs, based on DNA matches with their relatives.
