The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on May 1 that Moscow will not allow Ukraine to be restored within its 1991 borders, claiming the goal is driven by a desire to “exterminate everything Russian.”

“It is quite clear that behind the baseless and unfounded claims of the Kyiv regime and its Western supporters about the so-called restoration of Ukraine within the 1991 borders lies a cannibalistic instinct to eliminate everything Russian. Of course, Russia will never allow such a scenario to materialize,” the statement from the ministry reads.

Within the same statement, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed that Ukraine attacked a market in Oleshky with FPV drones without providing any evidence.

On April 15, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected Witkoff’s recent comments regarding potential peace negotiations over Ukraine’s territory, underscoring that any discussion on Ukraine’s territorial integrity must solely involve the Ukrainian people.

On April 14, Witkoff said his talk with Vladimir Putin focused on ending the war in Ukraine through a deal centered around control of “five territories.”

Zelenskyy has stressed several times in the past that Ukraine will not recognize Russian control over occupied territories, emphasizing that the country’s laws prevent any such concession.
