On September 17, the 12th Special Purpose Brigade “Azov” carried out a highly successful operation that resulted in the capture of several Russian soldiers. Disguised as Russian airborne reconnaissance units, the Azov fighters approached Russian positions, engaged in casual conversation with the enemy, and eventually took them prisoner.

Footage of the operation, captured by one of the brigade’s members, was released on Azov’s official YouTube channel. The video shows how three Russian soldiers, stationed near their positions, were approached by the disguised Ukrainian troops. Initially, the Russians were unaware of the deception and carried on a routine conversation, only to realize too late that they were speaking to Azov fighters.

One of the Russian soldiers remarked during the capture, “We almost shot you, thinking you were Ukrainian forces. You captured us perfectly.”

The Azov Brigade emphasized that despite Russian propaganda claims, the unit strictly adheres to international laws regarding the treatment of prisoners of war. “Every Russian soldier who surrenders is guaranteed to keep their life and health intact,” the brigade noted. Once in captivity, the Russian soldiers provided testimony regarding their deployment to Ukraine and the conditions within the Russian military.

In a separate report, the Russian captives admitted that their commanders had left them without essential weapons and equipment, forcing them to dig in and hold their positions under poor conditions.
