Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to meet with US presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump during his visit to the US next week.
According to Bloomberg, Harris is seeking the meeting to strengthen her foreign policy credentials ahead of the upcoming US presidential election.
Kamala Harris has been a strong advocate of Biden’s support for Ukraine in its defense against Russia’s invasion, which began in February 2022.
Additionally, Zelenskyy is reportedly hoping to meet with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly, taking place from September 24 to 30 in New York.
Trump has also expressed openness to a meeting with Zelenskyy. When asked by journalists if he plans to meet the Ukrainian president, Trump responded, “Certainly so,” though he did not provide further details.
In addition, Reuters reports that Zelenskyy is set to address the UN Security Council on September 24.
During his visit to the US, Zelenskyy is expected to press for NATO and European Union membership, enhanced economic and security agreements, and a steady supply of more advanced weapons as part of his Victory Plan.
Back in August, Zelenskyy stated that he would present a Victory Plan to Biden, Harris, and Trump in September. The plan reportedly contains four key points, as well as a fifth essential item for Ukraine after the war concludes.
On September 18, in his evening address, Zelenskyy affirmed that Ukraine’s Victory Plan is fully prepared to be presented to Biden.
