Seven Ukrainian servicemen have been allegedly sentenced to prison terms of up to 16 years for their involvement in military actions in Russia's Kursk region.

This was reported by Meduza, citing the Russian Prosecutor's Office.

The court ruled that the servicemen "violated the sovereignty of the Russian Federation" by "illegally entering the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region to carry out terrorist activities."

According to the news agency, the Ukrainian soldiers were tried under charges of terrorism by prior conspiracy.

The prosecution claims that the accused "repeatedly opened fire with intent to kill Russian military personnel and civilians, restricted their movement and use of telephone communications, and hindered their evacuation."

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, disregarding Ukraine's sovereignty.

Ukraine’s incursion into the Kursk region in the summer of 2024 served as a preemptive measure to thwart Russia’s plans to seize Ukraine’s Kharkiv and Sumy regions.

Previously, on December 11, 2024, a court in the temporarily occupied Donetsk sentenced 9 Ukrainian servicemen to severe prison terms ranging from 24 years to life imprisonment.
