Shoigu Meets Xi in Beijing: “Russia Is Focused on Deepening Cooperation With China”

On February 28, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. Delivering a message from Russian leader Vladimir Putin, he emphasized Moscow’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.
“Russia highly values the agreements reached with China and is focused on deepening cooperation,” Shoigu stated.
Additionally, he emphasized that the Russia-China relationship serves as a model of interaction between two great powers and is based on shared interests, equality, and deep mutual trust.
President Xi Jinping acknowledged the special nature of China-Russia relations and expressed hope for maintaining comprehensive contacts to fully implement the agreements he and Putin have reached.
Earlier that day, Shoigu held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where both parties noted the alignment of their positions on “key international issues.”
Previously, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Breitbart News that the Trump administration is working to weaken Russia’s ties with China, drawing a parallel to former President Richard Nixon’s efforts during the Cold War to pull China away from the Soviet Union.
