“If I Could Fly”, a short film produced by Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, seeks to highlight the psychological toll of the war on Ukrainian children. The film, crafted by students at the German film school, aims to raise awareness about the emotional trauma caused by the war against Ukraine.

In an April 4 article for Ukrainian Magazine DTF, the producers of If I Could Fly urge readers to support the Ukrainian charity Voices of Children, committed to providing psychological care for young victims of the ongoing war.

The short follows a 10-year-old girl traumatized by her escape from the war and the separation from her father.

She tells her younger sister that she can fly in her dreams, and when asked if their father will return, she dreams of embarking on a “brave mission” to find him on the front lines.

The lead role is played by Ukrainian actress Angelika Eshbayeva, with Olena Borozhenets portraying the mother and Oleg Karpenko as the father.

The Voices of Children fundraiser has set a goal of $10,000, with donations being accepted through a dedicated link.

On March 28, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern over the World Press Photo’s decision to present a paired image featuring a Ukrainian child affected by war alongside a Russian soldier.
