A standoff at Penal Colony No. 19 in Surovikino, Russia’s Volgograd Region, ended with Russian security forces killing the inmates who had taken hostages.

According to Russian news agencies TASS and Interfax, citing the National Guard (Rosgvardia), special unit snipers executed four precise shots that neutralized the inmates holding hostages. The hostages were subsequently freed.

The Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) confirmed that four of its staff members were killed in the incident, with three others hospitalized.

The incident occurred during a disciplinary meeting at the high-security colony. It has been reported that one FSIN employee was killed during the hostage situation.

Earlier today, a violent uprising at Volgograd Penal Colony No. 19 in Surovikino, Russia, led to the death of at least one correctional officer and injuries to several others. Inmates, including Temur Khusinov, Rustam Navruzi, and Ramzindin Toshev, overpowered guards during a disciplinary meeting and took several workers hostage. They demanded $2 million and a helicopter for their release. The attackers, who claimed allegiance to ISIS, had previously acquired knives from prison staff. Special forces were dispatched, and a mullah from a local mosque joined the negotiations.
