Suspect in the Murder of Ukrainian MP Iryna Farion Detained in Dnipro
On July 25, a suspect in the murder of politician and linguist Iryna Farion was detained in Dnipro, Ukraine. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, confirmed the detention.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also confirmed the detainment. “The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, has just informed me about the detention in Dnipro of a suspect in the murder of Iryna Farion. I am grateful to each and every one who every day added more facts to the picture of the crime and brought the full truth closer,” Zelenskyy said.
Over the past few days, hundreds of specialists from the National Police of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and other agencies have been working tirelessly to solve the murder.
Expressing his gratitude, Klymenko acknowledged the efforts of all those involved. “I am grateful to each and every one who, every day, added more facts to the picture of the crime and brought the full truth closer,” he said.
The Minister of Internal Affairs disclosed details of the case to the public, stating that the operation involved 139 hours of continuous effort from a large team of operatives, investigators, criminal analysts, experts, police services, and the Security Service of Ukraine.
“They checked every corner along the route of the shooter’s departure and searched about 100 hectares of forest. Eventually, the suspect was tracked down. The person has been identified. Having his photo, it was only a matter of time: smart video surveillance cameras caught him everywhere,” said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The suspect is an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro. During the preparation for the crime, he rented at least three apartments in Lviv. “Now detained in the hands of the police. It is important to know all the details. Currently, the investigation is inclined to the opinion that the shooter is only an executor. More information later. We are finalizing it,” Klymenko concluded in his post.
