A Russian man has been charged with intentional homicide following an incident near Koh Ra, Phang Nga, where he allegedly threw his 13-year-old son into the sea.

According to Bangkok Post, the event occurred around 4 p.m. on Wednesday while a speedboat, carrying 33 tourists, was en route from the Surin Islands to Kuraburi pier. Among the passengers were 17 Thai nationals and 16 foreign tourists, accompanied by a crew of five.

Witnesses stated that Artem Bugorskiy, a 45-year-old Russian national, left his seat during the journey, approached his son Lucas—who held dual Thai-Russian nationality—and forcefully threw him into the water. Bugorskiy then jumped in after him.

The speedboat captain immediately halted the vessel and initiated a rescue. Despite efforts to assist, Bugorskiy reportedly refused help and declined to reboard. The crew subsequently located Lucas in the water. He was retrieved with visible injuries to his head and face, which are believed to have been caused by contact with the boat’s propeller.

The injured boy was transported to Kuraburi Chai Pattana Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Local authorities detained Bugorskiy upon the boat’s return to the pier. Police have since charged him with intentional homicide. The suspect has denied all allegations.
