The Netherlands to Supply Drones to Ukraine Worth €42.6 Million
The Dutch Ministry of Defense, in collaboration with DeltaQuad , has announced plans to deliver reconnaissance drones to Ukraine valued at €42.6 million. This information was released on the official website of the Ministry.
This procurement marks the initial step in a broader action plan aimed at supplying drones following the recent visit of the Dutch Defense Minister to Kyiv. According to the Ministry, the DeltaQuad drones feature advanced reconnaissance capabilities and robust systems to counter hostile electronic warfare tactics, enabling extended surveillance operations.
The drone acquisition is part of a larger allocation of €400 million, of which €200 million will be dedicated to purchasing drones from the Dutch defense industry. Furthermore, the Ministry has developed a three-point action plan focusing on the production and procurement of drones within the Netherlands to maintain and enhance local manufacturing competencies.
The three components of the plan include:
1. Support for Domestic Production: Enhancing the capabilities for the development and manufacturing of drones in the Netherlands.
2. Urgent Procurement: Swift acquisition of drones both for Ukraine and in collaboration with Ukrainian partners, as well as for domestic production.
3. Financing Processes: Establishing streamlined funding mechanisms for the procurement of reconnaissance drones.
It is important to note that due to operational security, specific details regarding the type and quantity of drones have not been disclosed. However, there is a strong likelihood that DeltaQuad will supply the DeltaQuad Pro VTOL drones, which have been in use by defense forces since 2022.
Recently, France has conducted initial tests of a domestic FPV drone that will soon be delivered to Ukraine. This drone, developed by NEXTER under the Colibri program initiated in May 2022, aims to produce affordable, remotely piloted FPVdrones capable of targeting light objectives from distances up to five kilometers. The tested model is based on the civilian Delair Tech UX11, featuring a wingspan of 1.1 meters and a weight of up to 1.5 kilograms.
