Trump Says President Zelenskyy Could “End War Almost Immediately” by Striking Deal With Russia

US President Donald Trump said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could end the war with Russia “almost immediately” if he chose to strike a deal with Moscow, calling on Kyiv to seek an agreement instead of prolonging the conflict, according to Ukrainska Pravda on August 18.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote: “President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately if he wants, or he can continue to fight. Remember how it started. No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!”

Trump also announced a major White House meeting with European leaders on Aug. 18, describing it as unprecedented in scale. “Big day tomorrow at the White House. Never have so many European leaders gathered at the same time. A great honor to host them!!!” he wrote.
The gathering is expected to include President Zelenskyy alongside European partners.
Earlier, on August 17, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels, where the two leaders held talks before addressing the media. Von der Leyen welcomed Zelenskyy at the European Commission headquarters, after which they posed for official photographs. Later in the day, both leaders joined a virtual session of the “Coalition of the Willing.
