Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson might interview Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the near future, Carlson announced on July 3.

“Looks like we’ve got the Zelenskyy interview. We’ve been trying for two years, and with particular intensity after interviewing Putin in February. The point is to bring Americans much-needed information about the conflict that’s completely reshaping their country’s position in the world. Coming soon we hope,” Carlson wrote.

This interview would follow Carlson’s February interview with Vladimir Putin. The interview brought Carlson a wave of criticism, including for claiming he was the only Western journalist to try and interview Putin.

“Does Tucker really think we journalists haven’t been trying to interview President Putin every day since his full-scale invasion of Ukraine?” Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s presenter, wrote on X.

Tucker Carlson would admit later on Lex Fridman's podcast that the “denazification” part of Putin’s answers left him perplexed.

"I thought it was one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. I didn’t understand what it meant. Denazification? I’m merely saying there isn’t a Nazi movement in 2024. It’s a way of calling people evil. Calling them [Ukrainians] Nazis, I thought it was childish," Carlson said.

Update:

The press secretary in the administration of Volodymyr Zelenskyy Serhii Nykyforov denied Zelenskyy planning an interview with Carlson.

Mr. Tucker Carlson should check his sources in the FSB more carefully. The President of Ukraine has a completely different schedule, and Tucker Carlson is not there,” Nykyforov wrote.
