UK Plans to Send Troops to Ukraine After War Ends, Defense Secretary Confirms

UK Defense Secretary John Healey has confirmed that Britain is preparing to send military forces to Ukraine once the war comes to an end.
Healey made the remarks during a press conference in Kyiv in response to a question from an RBC-Ukraine correspondent on September 3.
According to RBC-Ukraine, the minister’s statement echoed the earlier remarks of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who underscored London’s readiness to deploy troops to Ukraine. Healey clarified that any deployment of British personnel would take place only after active hostilities are over.
Asked to provide further details, , Healey declined to elaborate, saying that revealing sensitive plans would only benefit Moscow.
“All the countries that took part in today’s discussions, which I co-chaired with your Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, are firmly committed not to reveal the details of our plans, as that would only make [Russian leader Vladimir] Putin more aware,” he said.
At the same time, Healey sought to reassure Kyiv of Britain’s commitment, noting that the agreements under consideration are extensive and concrete. They cover the potential deployment of aircraft, naval vessels, and ground forces once conditions allow.
“Let me assure you that these plans and commitments to send aircraft, ships, or troops are significant and real. We believe peace is possible, and we must be ready when that peace comes,” the minister concluded.
Earlier, UK Defense Secretary John Healey honoured Admiral Sir Tony Radakin as he steps down after three years as Chief of the Defense Staff, commending him as a “driving force behind the Coalition of the Willing” and a steadfast supporter of Ukraine.
