Ukraine Calls on Mongolia to Detain Putin Under ICC Arrest Warrant
Ukraine requests Mongolia to arrest Putin if he arrives in the country. The warrant for his arrest was issued by the International Criminal Court, whose jurisdiction is recognized by Mongolia.
“The Ukrainian side hopes that the Government of Mongolia is aware of the fact that Vladimir Putin is a war criminal. A warrant was issued for his arrest on suspicion of the illegal forced transfer of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation by the International Criminal Court, whose jurisdiction is recognized by Mongolia,” the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote.
The Ministry stressed that the kidnapping of Ukrainian children is only one of the many crimes for which Putin and the rest of the military-political leadership of the Russian Federation must face justice.
“These individuals are guilty of an aggressive war against Ukraine, atrocities against the Ukrainian people, murders, rapes, robberies, shelling of civilian infrastructure and genocide,” the statement notes.
The Kremlin announced on August 29 that Vladimir Putin plans to visit Mongolia on September 3.
