Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed disappointment over Switzerland’s backing of the “China-Brazil consensus” on Ukraine, urging all nations that support international law and the UN Charter to avoid involvement in similar initiatives.

In a statement, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry voiced its dismay regarding Switzerland’s decision to support the so-called “China-Brazil six-point consensus,” which addresses the Russian war against Ukraine. The ministry questioned the reasoning behind such a move, given Switzerland’s previous involvement in the Peace Summit co-organized with Ukraine in June.

“We cannot understand the logic of this decision,” the ministry stated, referencing the successful June summit in Bürgenstock, where representatives from 100 countries and international institutions convened. Both countries have been actively working on increasing the number of signatories to the summit’s Communiqué and engaging in thematic conferences centered on Ukraine’s Peace Formula, aimed at achieving comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that all discussions and proposals concerning peace in Ukraine must adhere to two principles: “Firstly, nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. Secondly, all proposals must be rooted in the UN Charter, respecting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.”

Ukraine’s Peace Formula was described as the only viable path toward a lasting and just resolution. The ministry reiterated that there is no need for alternative platforms or formats to discuss peace efforts for Ukraine.

“Any initiatives that fail to make a clear reference to the UN Charter and do not ensure the complete restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity are unacceptable,” the statement read. “Such 'peace initiatives' only create the illusion of dialogue, while the aggressor continues its criminal actions.”

Ukraine called on Switzerland and other countries supporting international law and the UN Charter to avoid participating in “peace initiatives” that could complicate the process of achieving a comprehensive and just peace for Ukraine.

Earlier, Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs announced its support for China and Brazil’s peace initiative. Despite the absence of clear references to Ukraine’s territorial integrity in the proposal, Swiss officials emphasized the importance of including the UN Charter in any peace process. Switzerland, which hosted the Peace Summit in June, was the only Western country invited to the China-Brazil meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on September 27.
