Russian Church Teaches Schoolgirls to “Preserve Chastity” to Strengthen the State

Russian schoolgirls are now being urged to “preserve their chastity” as a way to “empower” Russia, Verstka reported on March 13.
According to the news agency, since the beginning of 2025, priests, nuns, abbesses, and employees of the Russian Orthodox Church’s diocesan departments have conducted more than 60 lessons on chastity for school students, as well as technical and vocational college students.
This information comes from Verstka, which analyzed posts from educational institutions and dioceses on the VKontakte social media platform.
According to Verstka’s analysis, these educational events have taken place in 28 regions of Russia, as well as in annexed Crimea and occupied parts of Ukraine’s Donetsk region.

During one of the lessons in Saint Petersburg, teenagers were told that losing chastity is akin to a fallen crown landing in the mud. A particularly notable moment was the distribution of “For a Chaste Lifestyle” badges to participants.
At Starokreshchenskaya School in Mari El, the wife of a local priest took the message even further, urging eighth-grade girls to look up to Saint Catherine the Great Martyr as a role model.
She also quoted “ancient treatises,” claiming that “pure maidens and chaste wives possess a subtle mystical power, whose energy brings strength to the state.”
On February 5, The Moscow Times reported that Russian schools are increasingly incorporating war-related exhibitions, with museums dedicated to the Kremlin’s “special military operation” opening alongside patriotic lessons and memorial plaques for killed soldiers.
