In Russia, 190 schools have been named in honor of participants in the war against Ukraine. Russian media reported this information, citing Vladimir Kiknadze, deputy director of the Department of State Policy in Education.

“511 names of Heroes of Russia, already more than 190 names of Heroes of the war in Ukraine, more than 2,500 Heroes of the Soviet Union, 124 schools named after heroes of combat operations in Afghanistan, and nearly a thousand schools bear the names of Heroes of the Great Patriotic War,” Kiknadze said.

According to Vladimir Kiknadze, meetings with participants in the war against Ukraine are currently being held in schools, colleges, pedagogical universities, as well as at international and nationwide children’s centers.

“Today, they are teachers of Fundamentals of Security and Homeland Defense. Today, they lead military-patriotic clubs. But, of course, it will not be possible for all veterans to visit all schools constantly,” Kiknadze noted.

Previously, Russian preschools marked the beginning of 2025—the year Russian leader Vladimir Putin declared the “Year of the Defender of the Fatherland"—by staging mass military-patriotic drills for young children, forcing them to throw toy grenades, crawl through snow, and weave camouflage nets.
