Ukraine and Canada Sign Historic 100-Year Partnership Declaration

Ukraine and Canada have officially signed several bilateral agreements, highlighted by a joint Declaration on a 100-Year Partnership.

The agreement was signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during an official ceremony on September 10, 2026 in Calgary, Canada.

Under the signed declaration, both leaders agreed to work toward a comprehensive hundred-year partnership agreement.

The upcoming deal aims to strengthen political ties, expand economic cooperation, and enhance security collaboration between the two nations, while supporting efforts to achieve a durable and just peace following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“We spoke in detail about opportunities to ensure Ukraine’s financial stability for this year and the next. Thank you for the readiness to assist in securing the necessary funding for budget needs and for our warriors. I also spoke about the virtually constant Russian strikes with ballistics and drones. Mark assured that Canada is ready to join our European anti-ballistic program FREYJA with its technologies. This step is necessary and timely. There will also be additional defense deliveries,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

“Of course, we also had a very substantive conversation regarding promising bilateral projects in defense and the economy. In particular, our teams are currently working on the Drone Deal. We expect that in the near future we will be able to reach a full-fledged agreement. Thank you, Mark! Thank you to the people and all of Canada for the significant support,” the Ukrainian President added.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal held substantive discussions with Canadian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson regarding cooperation in the gas sector and nuclear energy. Shmyhal proposed creating a strategic "energy security bridge" focused on the supply of Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to maximize the diversification of gas delivery routes.

The official outlined Ukraine's intent to conclude a long-term strategic energy agreement spanning 30 years and addressed preparations for the upcoming winter. Discussions focused on the potential for Canada to provide CAD 650 million ($460 million) in direct grant support for Ukrainian gas purchases as part of its total support package for the year, alongside CAD 90 million ($64 million) already contributed through the Energy Support Fund.

Additional talks centered on importing energy equipment from Canadian manufacturers and strengthening nuclear energy partnership, specifically leveraging Canada's expertise in small modular reactors (SMRs) for future strategic deployment.

Previously, in a major expansion of their defense-industrial collaboration, Ukraine and Canada established a joint initiative to manufacture unmanned aerial systems on Canadian soil.

The newly created joint venture, Airlogix-Sentinel, brought together the technical expertise of Ukrainian defense tech firm Airlogix and Canadian manufacturer Sentinel Research and Development.

Supported by both governments, the project aimed to streamline the production and delivery of Ukrainian GOR tactical reconnaissance drones to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in support of their defense against Russia’s full-scale invasion, while simultaneously strengthening Canada’s domestic industrial capacity in critical technologies.
