Canada Delivers More Military Support to Ukraine, Including F-16 Systems

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a new aid package for Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv on February 24, 2024.
The package includes 25 LAV II infantry fighting vehicles, two armored combat support vehicles, on which Ukrainian personnel will train in Germany, a landing system for F-16 fighter jets, and four flight simulators for F-16s. Canada will also send millions of rounds of ammunition, military equipment, and first aid kits.
Additionally, Canada will provide the first tranche of a 5 billion Canadian dollar aid package, funded by proceeds from frozen Russian assets. A separate grant will be allocated to support Ukraine’s energy security.
Earlier, at the Kyiv Security Forum on February 21, Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Natalka Cmoc said that reinstating Russia in the G7 would be a mistake.
“We must remember the reasons for Russia’s exclusion—following the annexation of Crimea in 2014, the circumstances remain unchanged. Canada is not ready to alter the G7 membership and will stand by its decision,” Cmoc stated. She added that support for Ukraine remains a priority for the G7.
