Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine, Natalka Cmoc, at the Kyiv Security Forum on February 21, claims that returning Russia to the G7 is a mistake.
"We must remember the reasons for Russia’s exclusion—following the annexation of Crimea in 2014, the circumstances remain unchanged. Canada is not ready to alter the G7 membership and will stand by its decision," Cmoc stated.
She further emphasized that support for Ukraine remains central to the G7’s agenda.
"Our focus will be on reinforcing anti-Russian sanctions—making them stronger, more flexible, and addressing any attempts to bypass them," the ambassador added.
Previously, US President Donald Trump assured that Ukraine will be part of upcoming negotiations aimed at ending the war, while also advocating for Russia’s reinstatement in the G7.
