Ukraine and Canada are expanding their defense-industrial collaboration through a new initiative to manufacture unmanned aerial systems.

The project will establish a production line on Canadian soil dedicated to building Ukrainian reconnaissance drones. These drones will then be supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to support their defense against Russia’s full-scale invasion, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on May 29.

This cooperation is formalized through a new joint venture known as Airlogix-Sentinel. The enterprise combines the technical expertise of the Ukrainian defense tech firm Airlogix with the capabilities of the Canadian manufacturer Sentinel Research and Development.

Supported by both the Ukrainian and Canadian governments, the partnership aims to streamline the manufacturing process and speed up the delivery of essential aerial equipment to Ukrainian forces for reconnaissance and operational planning.

Beyond immediate support for Ukraine, this venture serves as a strategic partnership for Canada. By producing these systems domestically, Canada expects to strengthen its industrial capacity in critical technologies and gain valuable insights into modern warfare tactics.

The project aligns with broader security interests for both nations, emphasizing a collaborative approach to strengthening defense resilience.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine expressed appreciation for Canada’s ongoing assistance.

Following the talks held on the sidelines of the European Political Community Summit in Yerevan on May 4, a new agreement was reached. Zelenskyy announced that Canada had contributed more than $830 million to support Ukraine’s air defense efforts under the PURL  initiative.

During the meeting, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed an additional $200 million in funding, which was intended to protect the Ukrainian population from Russian ballistic strikes. Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for this assistance, noting that these decisions played a crucial role in saving lives throughout the period of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
