Ukraine Downs Russian $16 Million Ka-52 “Alligator” Helicopter

The anti-aircraft artillery division of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade “Magura” reported downing a Russian Ka-52 “Alligator” helicopter, valued at $16 million, according to their official social media accounts.

This marks another loss for Russia’s air force in the ongoing war in Ukraine, where 13 Russian aircraft were shot down in February 2024 alone. On April 19, 2024, the Ukrainian Air Force achieved a significant milestone by successfully shooting down a Russian TU-22M3 strategic bomber for the first time, enhancing the safety of Ukrainian airspace.

Despite Western sanctions, Russia continues to acquire aircraft components, spending $500 million since 2022. A Financial Times analysis reveals that major Western banks have backtracked on their commitments to leave Russia after the invasion, providing millions to the Kremlin through taxes.
