Ukraine Launches Groundbreaking Drone-Only Operation Against Russian Forces
Ukraine’s Armed Forces have conducted their first-ever ground attack relying exclusively on unmanned systems. The operation near the village of Lyptsi in the Kharkiv region involved ground-based unmanned vehicles (UGVs) and first-person-view (FPV) drones.
According to a report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the operation marked a significant milestone in Ukraine’s use of advanced military technology.
A spokesperson for the National Guard’s “Khartia” Brigade, which conducted the operation, confirmed the mission utilized dozens of robotic systems. These included UGVs equipped with machine guns and drones designed for laying and clearing mines on enemy positions.
The spokesperson added that the attack successfully eliminated Russian positions without the involvement of infantry. Analysts from ISW noted that this operation underscores Ukraine’s efforts to integrate technological innovation into its defense strategy to mitigate manpower constraints.
In addition to deploying robotic systems in combat, Ukraine continues to develop and refine drone technology. The General Staff of Ukraine recently announced the completion of trials for a drone operating on fiber-optic cables, which is more resistant to electronic warfare.
