Ukraine Launches Online Marriage Service, Allowing Couples to Wed Virtually
Ukraine has introduced a new digital marriage registration service through a government app, allowing couples to marry online with just a few clicks, according to Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
The app now offers an online marriage registration feature, enabling couples to complete the entire marriage process from submitting their application to receiving their marriage certificate digitally.
Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced the launch. He stated, “We are launching online marriage registration through this new service. Only in Ukraine can you complete the entire marriage cycle—from submitting the application to the online ceremony and receiving the certificate digitally. There’s no need to travel, gather documents, or compile files to become husband and wife. Now, it’s just a few clicks away.”
The online marriage process can be completed in about 30 minutes. Couples can choose to change their surname, keep their current surname, or opt for a double surname directly through the app. After the ceremony, the marriage certificate will appear immediately in the app, while the paper version will be sent by mail. The service aims to assist military personnel and couples separated by distance or circumstances, enabling them to marry regardless of their location.
Earlier, three couples in Ukraine participated in the world’s first digital marriages through this pilot program.
