The defense forces of Ukraine are planning to establish a buffer zone within the territory of Russia’s Kursk Region, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk announced. The planned security zone will encompass several key initiatives:

  • Conducting humanitarian operations to support the civilian population within the zone

  • Opening humanitarian corridors to facilitate the evacuation of civilians, with routes available towards both Russia and Ukraine

  • Allowing access to international humanitarian organizations within this zone

Following a meeting on the situation in the Kursk region, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also announced the potential creation of military command posts in the region, should the situation require it.

“Meeting on the situation in the Kursk Region. Key issues were discussed—security, humanitarian aid, and the creation of military command posts if necessary,” Zelenskyy stated in his message. “Ukraine safeguards its people and border communities while taking active measures on Russian territory. Our forces adhere strictly to the requirements of international conventions and international humanitarian law,” he added.
