Ukraine Repatriates Bodies of 563 Fallen Soldiers
In a large-scale repatriation operation, Ukraine returned the bodies of 563 fallen defenders to their homeland, according to a recent report by Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on November 8.
The repatriation efforts included the return of 320 bodies of soldiers killed in action in the Donetsk region and an additional 89 from the Bakhmut area.
Additionally, 154 bodies of Ukrainian defenders were repatriated from morgues on Russian territory.
This effort was made possible through the coordinated work of multiple Ukrainian agencies, including the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ombudsman’s Office, the Secretariat for Missing Persons, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and the State Emergency Service, among others.
The International Committee of the Red Cross also provided significant assistance.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces will now transport the remains to designated state facilities where law enforcement officials and forensic experts will conduct formal identification procedures.
On October 18, Ukraine repatriated the remains of 501 fallen Ukrainian soldiers.
