Ukraine Requests US Permission for ATACMS Strikes on Russian Airfields, WP Reports
The Washington Post reported that Ukraine is negotiating with the US on ATACMS strikes on Russian airfields, citing an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The adviser told the newspaper that ATACMS strikes are needed to destroy fighter jets at Russian airfields. This would allow the Armed Forces of Ukraine to keep the districts of the Kursk region under their control.
“This will give them the leverage they need for negotiations with Russia — this is what it’s all about,” the adviser stated.
The same adviser stated that Ukraine now controls the gas measuring station of Gazprom, 8 kilometers (5 miles) deep inside Russia, which ensures the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.
On the morning of August 6, the governor of Russia's Kursk region reported an attempt by Ukrainian Forces to break through the Kursk border. On August 7, Russian media reported that “enemy forces” had advanced toward the city of Sudzha in the Kursk region.
