Ukraine Secures Historic Bronze in Futsal World Cup Victory Over France
Ukraine’s national futsal team secured its first-ever bronze medal at the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan, defeating France 7:1 in the third-place playoff. The match took place on October 6 at Humo Arena in Tashkent, marking Ukraine’s first podium finish in the tournament’s history.
Ihor Cherniavskyi opened the scoring for Ukraine in the 10th minute, followed by Mykhailo Zvarych, who doubled the lead in the 21st minute. Although Ayoub Saadaoui responded with a goal for France, Ukraine maintained control. Yevhenii Zhuk added two goals, and Danyil Abakshin completed a hat-trick, securing a comfortable victory.
This bronze medal is Ukraine’s first at the Futsal World Cup. In 1996, the team reached the semi-finals but lost the third-place match to Russia. France, making its debut at the tournament, showed promise despite the result.
Earlier, Ukraine reached the semi-finals by defeating Venezuela 9:4 but lost 3:2 to Brazil, leading to the third-place playoff. Brazil will face Argentina in the final for the gold medal.
