On the night of January 26, drone strikes targeted the Ryazan Oil Refinery, one of Russia’s largest oil processing facilities. Reports of explosions and a subsequent fire were confirmed by local residents and media outlets, marking the second attack on the refinery this week.

According to Astra, the attack occurred around 1:30 a.m. Residents in the area reported multiple explosions and visible flames in the vicinity of the refinery, located in the village of Dyadkovo, near Ryazan. Russian state media and Telegram channels shared videos and images of the fire, though the precise timing of the footage remains unverified.

Pavel Malkov, Governor of the Ryazan region, stated on his official Telegram channel that several drones were intercepted and destroyed by air defense systems. The refinery, operated by Rosneft, processes up to 17 million tons of oil annually and supplies fuel to regions surrounding Moscow.

Ukrainian officials have not formally commented on the incident, though a representative of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrii Kovalenko, described the refinery as a significant target, stating, “This is fuel for military equipment and more.”

Russian authorities reported the destruction of 15 drones overnight, with eight intercepted over Ryazan, six over Kursk, and one over Belgorod.

Earlier, the refinery had already been targeted on January 24, when local residents reported at least ten explosions. That attack reportedly resulted in fires at three storage tanks and a facility for hydrotreating diesel fuel and aviation kerosene.

According to Russian media and Telegram sources, the refinery remains under heavy security. The refinery is located over 450 kilometers from Ukraine’s border.
