Ukraine Set to Become NATO’s Second-Strongest Military in Europe, Says Latvian FM
Ukraine will have the second-strongest military on the European continent within NATO once it joins the alliance, Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze said speaking at a panel discussion at the Warsaw Security Forum on October 1.
Lithuanian official noted Ukraine’s battle-hardened military and its “clear political commitment to be the best.”
“Ukraine’s accession to the EU & NATO would bring a considerable contribution to the security & prosperity of Europe as a whole, given the experience & combat capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces, as well as the country’s economic & technological resources.”
“Ukraine will be the second strongest NATO member, at least on the European continent,” the minister added, noting that Ukraine’s military strength will only be surpassed by major powers like the United States and Turkey.
Earlier, new NATO Chief Mark Rutte said that Ukraine’s rightful place is in NATO.
