Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF), working in coordination with the partisan movement “Chornaya Iskra” (“Black Spark”), have carried out a special operation in the Caspian Sea, striking two Russian vessels used to transport weapons and military equipment, according to the SOF press service on December 12.

According to the statement, representatives of the partisan movement provided detailed intelligence on the vessels’ routes and the nature of their cargo, enabling the operation.

The strike targeted the vessels “Kompozitor Rakhmaninov” and “Askar-Saridzha” near the coast of Russia’s Republic of Kalmykia in the Caspian Sea.

Both ships are reportedly used by Russia for military purposes and are under US sanctions for their role in transporting military cargo between Iran and Russia. The timing of the operation has not been disclosed.

Earlier, Ukrainian security forces struck a Russian tanker from the “shadow fleet” on December 10, disabling the vessel during a covert maritime operation in the Black Sea.
