Ukraine to Assemble International Coalition to Strengthen Defense and Secure Fair Resolution of War
Ukraine is preparing to hold a meeting in December with a group of international partners to align on strategies for both strengthening its defense and pursuing a diplomatic resolution to the war.
According to presidential spokesperson Serhiy Nykyforov, the coalition will include key European countries, along with the United States, that are crucial in maximizing support for Ukraine.
“The final list of participants is still being formed, but it will include countries with long-range capabilities, those making the largest investments in Ukrainian arms production, and those whose support is vital for our future in NATO,” Nykyforov explained during a press briefing.
This announcement follows a joint press conference between President Zelenskyy and German opposition leader Friedrich Merz, who visited Kyiv on December 9. Merz proposed the creation of a contact group involving Germany, France, Poland, and the UK, with collaboration from the United States, to discuss the resolution of the war.
In response, Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine is already organizing such a group and expects Denmark to participate, with the first meeting set for December.
Previously, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stressed that continued military support for Ukraine is key to strengthening its position in any future talks with Russia. He highlighted the importance of sustained aid, including a €40 billion financial pledge, to ensure Ukraine can negotiate from a position of strength.
