Ukraine’s ground-based Raven air-defense system has destroyed 24 Russian drones and four missiles, including several Kh-59 and one Kh-101 cruise missile, according to the Air Command “West” of the Ukrainian Air Force on October 24.
Initially deployed to counter drones, the Raven has proven far more versatile. The British-designed system, adapted in record time for ground use, is now also being employed against Russian aircraft.

“We destroyed 24 strike and reconnaissance UAVs with it,” Ukrainian crew members said. The commander of the 223rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment added that the system has successfully intercepted three Kh-59 and one Kh-101 missiles.
“From detection to launch took only seconds—and our missile struck the Kh-59. A month later, we destroyed a Kh-101, and later two more Kh-59s,” he recalled.

The Raven team also engaged a Russian Su-25 jet conducting airstrikes in the east. “We detected the target over occupied territory and confirmed it was hostile,” said an operator identified as Artem.
“The system indicated a firing solution, and we launched. The result is unknown, but for the pilot, it was a very unpleasant surprise.” Following that encounter, Russian aircraft reportedly appeared less frequently in the area.

The Raven project originated from a concept by the Royal Air Force’s Air and Space Warfare Center and was developed for Ukraine in just four months.
British engineers mounted short-range ASRAAM missiles on a Supercat HMT-600 chassis and adapted them for surface launch in only three months.
Earlier, reports emerged that Ukraine was preparing a long-term contract with the United States to acquire 25 Patriot air defense systems.
