Ukrainian Cyberattack Disrupts Russian Nuclear Developer's Operations
Cyber experts from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in collaboration with the hacker group VO Team, have disabled equipment belonging to the "Vega" provider in the Chelyabinsk region. The Russian nuclear warhead developer is now without internet and communication.
According to a press release from the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), the cyberattack was successful. "Vega" is the sole provider in the city of Snezhinsk in the Chelyabinsk region of Russia. Ukrainian specialists managed to disable 1,173 switches and 10 servers of the provider. Information on "Vega's" servers has been destroyed.
For almost a week, several strategic enterprises in the city have been without internet and communication services. Among them is the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics, a Russian nuclear warhead developer that was connected only to "Vega." The institute is under sanctions.
Due to the attack, Ukrainian intelligence services were able to obtain personal data of employees and other documents from the plant. This information helps identify mechanisms for circumventing sanctions and those involved.
The cyberattack also poses a threat to Moscow's state orders, as indicated by comments in local Telegram channels in Snezhinsk.
