On December 4, 2024, the Russian military launched an attempt to break through into the city of Kupiansk. The assault was successfully repelled by Ukrainian forces, according to Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, who shared the information on his Telegram channel.

“Several units of equipment and infantry attempted to break through and were destroyed by our forces,” Kovalenko stated. He noted that such assaults have become a common tactic for Russian forces, who frequently attempt to penetrate residential areas or the outskirts of cities. These attempts often involve deploying airborne troops and attempting to establish a foothold until reinforcements can arrive.

Kovalenko emphasized that the Ukrainian military’s response was effective, as they managed to thwart the attack without significant losses. He also mentioned that similar operations by Russian forces are becoming routine as they seek to gain strategic positions near Ukrainian territories.

Earlier, on November 13, 2024, Russian forces attempted to breach the defense lines of Ukrainian troops in the Kupiansk area, but the assault was repelled successfully.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the enemy launched multiple waves of attacks, utilizing about 15 pieces of equipment, including tanks and armored vehicles. Russian units briefly entered the city but were quickly forced out, suffering significant losses. Kupiansk, a key logistical hub in Kharkiv region, remains under Ukrainian control, with Russian forces now positioned just a few kilometers from the city’s northeastern perimeter.
