Ukrainian Intelligence Announces Ongoing Operations Against Wagner Mercenaries in Africa

Ukrainian Defense Intelligence has announced that operations against Russian Wagner group mercenaries in Africa will continue, according to Andrii Yusov, a representative of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), during a recent telethon.

Yusov confirmed that the successful military action against Wagner units in Mali was facilitated by crucial intelligence. He stated, “The rebels received not only the necessary information but also actionable intelligence that enabled them to carry out a successful operation against Russian war criminals.”

While Yusov did not disclose further details, he indicated that more developments are expected. He highlighted that the Wagner group has been actively involved in various African regions, addressing geopolitical and economic issues through mercenary operations. Yusov noted the diminishing capability of Wagner and Russia’s reduced effectiveness in leveraging these groups for regional influence.

On July 27, Tuareg rebels from the CSP-PSD movement released images and footage showing the destruction of a Wagner convoy near Tinzaouatene, close to the Mali-Algeria border. The clashes, which occurred on July 25 and 26, resulted in the deaths of at least 20 Wagner members, with survivors being captured. The Wagner group has confirmed the engagement and partially acknowledged the losses.
