Ukrainian Security Service Thwarts Russian Assassination Plot Targeting President Zelenskyy

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced the successful thwarting of an assassination plot targeting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other high-ranking Ukrainian officials. The plot, orchestrated by the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation, was exposed thanks to a collaborative effort by the SBU and the State Guard Office.

According to the SBU, a network of collaborators, overseen by the FSB from Moscow, was discovered and neutralized. This network included two colonels from the State Guard Service who were identified as leaking classified information to Russia.

“A limited number of people knew about our special operation, and I personally monitored its progress. The terrorist attack, which was supposed to be a gift to Putin before the inauguration, was actually a failure of the Russian special services. But we must not forget — the enemy is strong and experienced, he cannot be underestimated. We will continue to work ahead of time, so that every traitor receives the well-deserved court sentences,” said the Head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk.

The investigation revealed that the FSB actively planned to eliminate President Zelenskyy, Security Service Head Vasyl Malyuk, Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kyryl Budanov, and other prominent figures. Their strategy involved seeking accomplices within the military, particularly those with close proximity to the president’s security detail. These accomplices would have been tasked with taking President Zelensky hostage and subsequently assassinating him.

As indicated by the Prosecutor General’s Office, one of the apprehended suspects reportedly received two FPV-type drones, rocket-propelled grenades RPG-7 and MON-90 anti-personnel mines provided by the FSB.

The Security Service of Ukraine systematically documented the criminal actions of those involved and detained them.

The arrested individuals now face charges of treason and aiding a terrorist attack. This incident highlights the ongoing security threats faced by Ukraine and the vigilance of its security forces in protecting the nation’s leadership.
