An attack on a 17-year-old Ukrainian boy occurred on Wednesday, July 10th, near the Zakrzówek swimming pool on Wyłom Street. The boy was hospitalized in serious condition after a brutal beating in Krakow’s Zakrzówek district, near the Zakrzówek swimming pool on Wyłom Street.

According to Małopolska Police spokesperson Anna Zbroja, “a fight broke out between a group of people, resulting in injuries to a 17-year-old Ukrainian citizen. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, as well as any potential witnesses.”

Details of the assault emerged through a report by “Gazeta Wyborcza,” where the victim’s mother recounted the events. Her son was allegedly part of a group of six when they were approached by four unidentified men. A fight ensued, and the 17-year-old boy sustained severe injuries while defending his friend. Reports suggest the attackers used a machete and gas during the assault. The victim reportedly suffered severed fingers and a serious head injury.

A social media post circulating in Ruczaj neighborhood groups reads, “In the evening at Zakrzówek, a 17-year-old boy (from Ukraine) was brutally beaten by unknown attackers. They inflicted severe injuries, including a severed finger, a head wound, and threw him into the water. The young man is hospitalized and in critical condition. His mother pleads for any information regarding the attackers. Please contact her through the comments or provide any details to the police.”

The Krakow Police Department is urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.

Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has led to a wave of Ukrainian refugees seeking safety in EU countries. A number of them are facing violent attacks, often said to be motivated by hate, nationality, or political views.
