Ukrainian Troops Use Ground Drones to Secure Defensive Lines With Barbed Wire

Soldiers from Ukraine’s 93rd Kholodnyi Yar Mechanized Brigade began using ground drones to install barbed wire along the front lines in Donbas.
In the report, released on March 12, the remote-controlled drones are fitted with special structures to deploy the wire, slowing the advance of Russian forces. Operators monitor the installation process from the air using Mavic UAVs to ensure proper placement.
One operator, call sign Barik, explained that the barriers help obstruct enemy infantry and vehicles.

The Ukrainian military has increasingly relied on ground-based robotic systems for frontline operations, including logistics and casualty evacuation.
In October 2024, the KOLO charitable foundation delivered eight Vepryk ground drones to the 93rd Brigade. These tracked drones, capable of carrying up to 400 kilograms of supplies or evacuating wounded soldiers, can operate autonomously for up to four hours in varying conditions.

Soldiers emphasize the advantages of robotic support on the battlefield, stating, “It’s better to lose a robot than a human life.”
Earlier, Ukraine began developing an advanced aerial system to counter Russia’s nightly Shahed drone attacks.
