Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office Andrii Yermak announced on his Telegram channel that the United States has introduced full blocking sanctions against a network of companies and maritime vessels involved in smuggling Iranian oil disguised as Iraqi. The decision was made by the US Department of the Treasury on September 2.

According to Yermak, the network operated under the control of an Iraq-born Chinese businessman residing in the United Arab Emirates. He stated that the scheme generated hundreds of millions of dollars annually in direct support of what he described as a state sponsor of terrorism.

The sanctions target seven companies and nine tankers allegedly engaged in the smuggling operation. “This is a clear signal: any attempts to help Iran or Russia circumvent sanctions are doomed. Every dollar obtained from the ‘shadow fleet’ or smuggling will be blocked,” Yermak said.

He emphasized that Ukraine and its partners continue to build a system aimed at cutting off aggressors from financial resources used for waging war.

Yermak added that proposals from Ukraine’s sanctions working group are being taken into account in such measures and expressed gratitude to Washington for its consistent efforts.

Earlier, it was reported that Yermak met with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in New York to advance implementation of agreements from the Washington summit and to pressure Russia amid stalled peace efforts.
