The US Department of State expressed its support for Ukraine’s investigation into the largest recorded mass execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) by Russian forces, said Matthew Miller, US Department of State spokesperson during a briefing on October 2.

In a statement, the department affirmed that Ukraine’s efforts to uncover the truth about the atrocities committed against its captured soldiers are both appropriate and necessary.

“So we have seen the reports. I don’t have any independent information with which to confirm that. I think it’s appropriate that Ukraine conduct the investigation that they’ve announced, but obviously speaking generally we have seen Russia commit horrific acts since the beginning of this conflict,” Miller said.

Earlier, UN report revealed that Russian Forces are systematically subjecting Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) to torture and cruel treatment at every stage of their detention.
