On the night of August 3, 2024, Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out strikes on the Morozovsk airfield located in Russia’s Rostov region. According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the targeted facilities included munitions storage sites, specifically those containing guided aerial bombs.

The Morozovsk airfield hosts the 559th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment, which operates Su-24, Su-24M, and Su-34 bombers. The airfield has previously been targeted; in June, Ukrainian forces launched an attack involving over 70 drones.

The strike caused significant damage to the munitions storage sites. Vasily Golubev, Governor of the Rostov region, reported, that the drone attack resulted in damage to several storage facilities in the Kamensky and Morozovsky districts.

The Ukrainian military, in coordination with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine, successfully hit key ammunition storage areas. Details regarding damage to Russian aviation equipment and air defense systems are still being verified.

In addition to the Morozovsk airfield strike, Ukrainian forces also targeted storage facilities for fuel and lubricants, as well as several oil depots in the Rostov, Belgorod, and Kursk regions. Preliminary reports indicate that at least two fuel tanks ignited as a result of the attacks.
