Vladimir Putin to Visit North Korea and Vietnam This Week

Authors

The Russian government officially announced the visits of Vladimir Putin to North Korea and Vietnam, at what seems to be an invitation of the leaders of these countries.

Vladimir Putin is expected to visit North Korea on June 18-19 and Vietnam on June 19-20.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un invited Putin during a trip to Russia’s Far East last September. Putin’s last visit to Pyongyang was in July 2000.

Recently, in an interview with Bloomberg, the Minister of Defense of South Korea Shin Won-sik said that North Korea has likely sent nearly 5 million artillery shells to Russia and might send even more.

“Putin is expected to seek closer security cooperation with North Korea, especially military supplies such as artillery shells that are necessary to seize a chance to win,” Shin said.

Reuters reports that Putin’s visit to meet Tô Lâm, the communist leader of the Republic of Vietnam, comes after Hanoi decided not to take part in the Summit on Peace for Ukraine in Switzerland.
